Three-Year Deal Makes Eflin Highest-Paid Free Agent in Franchise History
The Tampa Bay Rays and right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin have agreed to a three-year contract worth $40 million, according to multiple reports. The deal includes $40 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of $13.33 million.
Eflin, who was a free agent after the 2022 season, is the largest free agent signing in Rays franchise history. The 29-year-old is coming off a solid season with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he posted a 3.88 ERA in 33 starts.
The Rays are hoping that Eflin can provide stability to their starting rotation, which struggled at times last season. Eflin has been a durable pitcher throughout his career, averaging over 180 innings per season over the last three years.
In return for Eflin, the Rays will reportedly send three minor leaguers to the Phillies. The names of the prospects involved have not yet been released.
