From Prime Minister to President

Aleksandar Vucic has been a dominant figure in Serbian politics for the past decade, serving as Prime Minister from 2014 to 2017 and then as President from 2017 to the present.

Early Life and Political Beginnings

Vucic was born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1970. He studied law at the University of Belgrade and became involved in politics in the 1990s, joining the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

In 2012, Vucic was elected Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in the government of Ivica Dacic. In 2014, he became Prime Minister after the SNS won a parliamentary election.

Presidency and Policies

In 2017, Vucic was elected President of Serbia. Since taking office, he has pursued a number of policies, including:

  • Improving economic relations with the European Union
  • Negotiating with Kosovo over its independence
  • Strengthening Serbia's military

Controversies and Challenges
